About 50 people are missing.
Since Thursday, July 4, precipitation has fallen in the south-west of the country, exceeding the monthly norm by three times. Two million residents have been ordered to evacuate, and Japan's meteorological agency is predicting even more rain.

When the rains started on Wednesday last week, people were completely unprepared for heavy rainfall. Over the weekend, the situation only worsened: rivers overflowed their banks, roads were destroyed and many residents were cut off from civilization.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Sunday that time is working against rescuers who are trying tirelessly. "There are still a lot of missing people and those who need help."
Hiroshima Prefecture suffered the most.
More than a thousand people were rescued by helicopters from the roofs of their houses that went under water.
At the moment, about 30 thousand people have been evacuated.
