Alaska Day is celebrated in the USA on October 18. It was on this day in 1867 that this land, formerly belonging to the Russian Empire, was transferred to the United States. We decided to see what Alaska looks like in our time, and bring the story of Sasha Cheban.

"The cold breath of blue ice monsters crashing into the sea… This is probably the strongest impression of Alaska. Although I have seen glaciers in different parts of the world, but I do not cease to be surprised by their beauty and eye-catching photogenicity. The mood is also created by a leaden sky with breaking rain — a short summer in Alaska is almost always rainy. Before the trip, I thought that this constant bad luck with the weather on Alaska cruises is common for everyone, but it is the cloudy weather that gives this state a peculiar and unique flavor," says Sasha Cheban.

1. Today I invite you to the neighborhood of the town of Juneau, which is the capital of the state. That's right, and not Anchorage, as I thought earlier. There are no highways leading here; a web of bays and fjords, glaciers and snow—capped peaks, even in the middle of summer, is the reality of harsh life in Alaska. An hour's drive away is one of the glaciers — Mendenhall (Mendenhall). The most famous in this area. After getting off the ramp of the Celebrity Millenium cruise ship, we went on a pre-booked excursion to the glacier and on a boat to see whales. It was perfect with the glacier, a little worse with the whales, but the cost was relatively low — around $ 120 per person, which is just perfect for excursions there.

2. The town of Juneau, a port for cruise liners, is a mix of tourist shops and all sorts of uninteresting stuff. Therefore, it is necessary to take excursions in the ports.

3. Excursions on the ship are usually 30-50 percent more expensive than in the port. However, on the Internet, you can take a more balanced approach to the choice.

4. The Mendenhall Glacier is located 20 km from Juneau and has a length of 19 km, but this value is not constant, and with decades the size is significantly reduced.

5.6. A 30-minute walk from the parking lot there is a visitor center with information about the glacier, interactive presentations and films.

I really like the organization of tourist places in normal countries. On the one hand, absolutely virgin nature, and on the other, comfortable information centers, paths and bridges. It seems that there are a lot of tourists around, but they absolutely do not interfere and are not perceived as something disturbing.
