But no one seems to understand why. They have almost no taste, are slimy in texture and look like sticky worms. So why do people pay hundreds of euros for angoulas dishes?
According to legend, eel fry used to feed chickens and pigs. There is also historical evidence that angoulas was once a staple of the working class. But today it is sold for a cosmic price of 1,000 euros per kilogram and only rich people can afford this delicacy. How did this happen?
But if you think that a thousand euros is too much for a bunch of worms, get ready. The first batch of angulas 2016 was sold for a whopping 5,500 euros per kilogram, and the second batch - for 1,030 euros. It's funny, but they were bought by the same person, the owner of the restaurant, who admitted that it was worth it and he paid I would pay even more for them.
The most popular recipe for cooking fry is to fry garlic and hot pepper in a large amount of olive oil. Then the fry themselves are added there in order to acquire at least some taste.
Recently, the delicacy has become so popular that even rich people find it hard to get it. In Spain, the black market of angulas is now flourishing.
