There are series that take place in almost every time period you can imagine and that takes place in a wide variety of locations around the world. While shows that take place in the present day are a lot of fun, it's also really fun to watch shows that take us back in time to another period, and sometimes even to another part of the world. This series gives us a dramatic and interesting insight into what life was like back then.
Some historical series is based on the life of a real person, while others focus on completely original characters. While those that focus on real, historical figures aren't always the most historically accurate depictions of their lives, does that make them any less interesting to watch? Obviously not since they became so popular.
There are so many historical series. How do you know which ones are worth watching?

1. Borgia.
If there's one reason to watch this show, it's Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo de Borgia / Pope Alexander VI. The series, as the title suggests, focuses on the notorious Borgia family and their rise to power and infamy in Renaissance Italy. If Irons' brilliant and despicable portrayal of the scandalous pontiff wasn't enough to grab an audience's attention, then his plot is absolutely seething and slithering with greed, intimidation, betrayal, and blasphemous scandal.

2. The fall of the Order.
It premiered on the History channel in 2017 and has aired two seasons of this historical series so far. So far, there isn't much news on when the third season will air, but fans are looking forward to seeing how this series develops in the future.

3. Tudors.
The Tudors aired from 2007 to 2010 for a total of four seasons. The series deserves the attention of anyone who wants to see a scandalous, dramatic look at the early days of the reign of King Henry VIII.

4. Poldark.
Poldark is a historical drama that began airing in 2015. The series is set in late 18th century England and is based on a novel of the same name.

5. the Last Kingdom.
The Last Kingdom is a historical series that began airing in 2015 and is based on the novel The Saxon Chronicle by Bernard Cornwell. The series began airing on BBC America before Netflix acquired the rights to the series, and has produced exclusively episodes ever since.

BBC drama set in the 1950s and 1960s. The fact that this series is set in the middle of the 20th century doesn't make it any less interesting to watch.

The series aired from 2010 to 2014 and was set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition era. Steve Buscemi plays the role of Nucky Thompson in this series, a cunning politician who runs Atlantic City with the help of bandits working in a seedy part of the city.
