The world's largest cemetery of old cars

In the "city of old cars" there are more than four thousand classic cars, most of which are made in 1972 or older. These are Fords, Cadillacs, and even a rare Mack milk truck made in 1941.
The history of the old car cemetery goes back to 1931, when the Lewis family opened a department store in the town of White. They sold everything from auto parts to clothing. When the United States entered World War II and resources such as steel and tires began to run out, the Lewises added a landfill to their business. They bought old cars, disassembled them, and sold spare parts. By the end of the 40s, the department store turned into a full-fledged site for collecting and cutting up unusable cars. It was then that the current owner of the cemetery, Dean, was born Lewis.

Dean spent his entire childhood playing with cars. "I've traveled millions of miles without moving an inch!" So when he took over his father's business in 1970, he decided to run it very differently: Dean decided that he would not disassemble cars, but save them.

Over the next few decades, Dean spent thousands of dollars buying various old and broken cars at auctions and from individuals.

One of Lewis ' most popular cars is the 1940 Ford used in the film Murder in Coweta County (1983) starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith.

The cemetery had grown so large that he had to buy more land. Dean sold some samples, but it wasn't a place where collectors could get a good deal — each car had a nostalgic value and Dean refused to sell them unless he felt that the price was really decent. Many buyers in the search for spare parts left disappointed, but when Dean was asked, he said: "Everything for sale."
