A Texas college professor has come out with a kind of protest against a new law that allows individuals to carry handguns on college campuses.

Charles K. Smith, a professor at San Antonio College, teaches geography. He went to class in a camouflage bulletproof vest and helmet because, according to him, he does not feel safe. "It certainly makes me uncomfortable because there will be more firearms on campus than there should be," Smith says. "My costume is just an attempt to express my feelings."

On August 1, 2017, the Texas Campus Carry Law began to operate in local colleges, which allows, if licensed, to carry firearms in higher education institutions.

A photo of Smith, dressed from head to toe in combat gear, was posted on Facebook. Opinions about the professor's actions were divided. "I understand that students have carried guns illegally on campus before, but now it's legal, and it increases the chances that something will happen," Smith said. — Before, when they were angry at me, they had to go home to get a gun, and they had time to cool off. Now they will have their weapons with them."

According to the professor, he is most concerned that in possible conflicts one of the participants may have a weapon. "In my opinion, the more people carry weapons, the more problems there will be," he said. "Nothing on this planet is worth more than a human life."
