The most terrible suicides of K-Pop stars: what drives Korean idols to suicide

Working in the field of show business involves many difficulties: the close attention of fans, a busy schedule, endless comments of haters on social networks. K-Pop stars had to face all this.

In Korea, the music contracts of celebrities are much tougher than in other countries: many of the so-called idols cannot have romantic relationships, they must adhere to strict diets and refuse phones at the first request of the manager.

In recent years in Korea has seen a whole series of suicides among popular young artists. About what or who drove the stars to suicide, read on.

A series of tragic deaths began in 2015. After appearing on the KARA Project show, Kara Sochjin became known to the general public. However, popularity played a cruel joke on her. Sochjin began a prolonged depression, which she could not cope with.

In the same year, on February 24, the singer was found dead in the garden in a residential complex. The girl committed suicide by jumping from the 10th floor. DSP Media, with whom Kara Sochzhin worked, told the press:

One of the most shocking deaths was the death of the ex-leader and vocalist of the SHINee group Kim Jonghyun. Jonghyun and four other South Korean musicians formed the band SHINee in 2008. In nine years they have recorded 11 albums: six in Korean and five in Japanese.

Jonghyun had the whole world at his feet, but severe depression did not let him go. He wrote about this in a suicide note:

Kim Jonghyun died on December 18, 2017 from carbon monoxide poisoning, he was 27 years old.

The former member of the South Korean group f (x) Choi Jin Ri, known under the pseudonym Solly, debuted in the group in 2009. The band quickly achieved popularity in South Korea, after which it became widely known abroad and attracted attention to the K-Pop style all over the world. In 2015, Solly left the band and began a solo career.

The girl considered herself a feminist. Solly defended the freedom of women to choose clothes and other things. For this, the conservative Korean society began to poison her in social networks and the media. The body of 25-year-old Solly was discovered by her manager on October 14, 2019. By the way, after the death of the girl in South Korea, they considered a bill against harassment in social networks, which will be called the "Solly Law".

Solly's best friend Gu Hara is a former member of one of the most famous Korean girl bands Kara. In 2015, the singer began her solo career by recording the mini-album Alohara (Can You Feel It?). And on May 26, 2019, the girl was hospitalized after a suicide attempt in her own home. She was saved, but after six months

Gu Hara followed her friend and made a second suicide attempt. The singer was found dead on November 24 at her home in Seoul. The girl was only 28 years old. The possible cause of suicide was the threats of her ex-boyfriend, who was going to leak her intimate photos to the Network.

Another sudden death, which struck not only K-Pop fans, but also doram fans, became known on December 3, 2019. Actor and singer Cha In Ha, who made his debut in 2017 in the short film "You, Deep Inside Me", was found dead in his own home. Cha In Ha was known as a member of the Surprise U group, which released 2 albums.

No suicide note was found, and the cause of death was not disclosed, but many fans are sure: it was a suicide, to which he was driven by difficult working conditions in show business.
