Six expensive films of 2017 that flew past the box office

The equator of the year is approaching, so it is already possible to make an interim review of the film distribution. There have not been so many hits that have collected a huge box office yet. You can only remember "Logan", "Beauty and the Beast", "Wonder Woman" and the sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy". But there are enough high-budget pictures that have been pelted with rotten tomatoes in the form of empty seats in cinemas. Some of them could not recoup themselves at the expense of fees in the USA (this, in principle, is already considered a failure), others turned out to be unprofitable at all.

"King Arthur's Sword"

It would seem that every Guy Ritchie film is doomed to commercial success. However, another film reading of an ancient legend did not reach a good $ 35 million to its budget: 140 million against 175. At the same time, the film collected only 38 million in the USA. Obviously, the reason is the loss of the original source — the previous film about King Arthur also failed.

"The Ghost in the Armor"

The producers of the Rupert Sanders picture would not care that the "Ghost in the Armor" fished out of the pockets of Americans only 40.5 million (with a budget of 110) if Scarlett Johansson in the image of a cyborg conquered the Asian market. The film was designed for him. But in the East they were outraged that the heroine of Japanese comics is played by a European woman, accused the creators of racism and did not go to the cinemas.

"Monster trucks"

Having spent 125 million on a fantastic comedy about a young man who likes to collect big cars from junk, Paramount Pictures studio hoped that the film would become one of their headliners. But I miscalculated badly. Viewers, having listened to the negative reviews of critics, paid less than 65 million in total for viewing.

"Alive"

A group of researchers led by Ryan Reynolds discovered life on Mars, but did not find interest among American moviegoers, having collected only half of its $58 million budget in the United States. Things were better with foreign rentals, and the tape still brought some profits.

"Medicine for health"

The passions simmering in hospitals for the mentally ill are the soil that many outstanding directors have loosened. But Gore Verbinski managed to grow only a weed on it. The critics trampled the film into the mud, confused to the point of confusion, and the crackle from the failure at the box office probably still stands in the ears of the producers. 26 million worldwide fees with a budget of 40 million.

"The Assassin's Creed"

Perhaps none of the film adaptations of computer games can be called successful. The film "Assassin's Creed" was no exception, despite the fact that it was shot based on one of the most popular Assassin's Creed game franchises. The American viewer paid two and a half times less for a picture with a budget of 125 million.
