Gideon Mendel's photo project "The Sinking World" is a frozen reminder that while many people are arguing about whether this very climate change exists at all, some are already experiencing its consequences in their own skin.

"The Sinking World is an attempt to visually capture the scale of climate change. These may be photographs of flood survivors in flooded houses or against the background of landscapes that were once beautiful and habitable. Keeping cool, the heroes of the pictures freeze in front of the camera, looking into the lens with a kind of disturbing attraction," Gideon said.

Gideon wanted to demonstrate the devastating impact of climate change over the past nine years. "The project started in 2007. Since then, I have visited many areas where floods occurred: I have visited the island of Haiti, Pakistan, Australia, Thailand, Nigeria, Germany, the Philippines, the UK, India, Brazil, Bangladesh and the USA," he says.

Maybe this is a reason for us to pay attention to the problem too?
