Rocket war at Easter celebration

Categories: Society

Easter in different countries is celebrated in a variety of forms and each has its own traditions of celebration. In the Vatican, huge crowds of believers gather in St. Peter's Square in Rome to listen to the Pope, in some countries they conduct a real rite of crucifixion. But on the Greek island of Chios in the town of Vrontados, two parishes - the parish of St. Mark and the parish of Panagia Erifianis - at midnight before Easter day, arrange a traditional “rocket war” among themselves. Thousands of fireworks shots create an incredibly bright and spectacular spectacle that lasts for several hours. The parish that more and more accurately hits the “enemy” (church building) wins.
