Road surgeon from Lyon: Street artist patches potholes with mosaics

The romantic nature of the French makes them see the beautiful in everything, even in the broken sidewalks and potholes on the roads. Street artist Ememem found inspiration in the poor state of the roads and turned the potholes into masterpieces.

Ememem is an inventive French artist who fills potholes in his hometown of Lyon with colorful mosaics to decorate the everyday life of everyone who sees them during the day. Thus, the street artist decided to draw the attention of people (and the city authorities) to the deplorable state of roads and sidewalks in France.

You could say it's his mission to patch up the broken sidewalks in his city by filling the potholes with colorful pieces of mosaic art. Thanks to his efforts over the past 10 years, some sidewalks and roads now look more colorful and creative.

By the way, these art objects have become a real attraction of Lyon. Local tourist guides will certainly pay attention to this urban "highlight". Fans jokingly refer to him as the"road surgeon."

The geography of Imemem's work has long gone beyond the borders of Lyon. Increasingly, this street artist appears in other European cities, such as Paris, Turin, Oslo, cities in Scotland, as well as in Milan, Madrid and Barcelona. 

The artist is often invited as a guest and participant at various art festivals. He willingly shares his experience and sometimes creates a mosaic canvas right in front of an enthusiastic audience.
