Lady Gaga: He wasn't photographing my appearance, he was photographing my soul.

During the filming, the traditional Japanese shibari binding technique was used, characterized by increased complexity and aesthetics of the bindings. This is one of Araki's favorite subjects, present in many of his works.

Araki: It was really strong. Lady Gaga is very involved in the process. She demanded ropes and said, "Tie me up!"

Lady Gaga: I was tied up by Araki's personal bandage master, with several ropes and Japanese knots.

Araki: When people find out that Lady Gaga came to Japan specifically for me to take her picture, it's a real surprise for them, right?

Lady Gaga: It's an honor for me to be the first American woman he shot, and the second pop star, in the company of Bjork.
