As it turned out, the popular Instagram location, dubbed "Novosibirsk Maldives", is not a resort recreation area at all, but even vice versa. So what is this place just created for spectacular photo shoots?
A beautiful turquoise lake, similar to an exotic tropical lagoon, is an ash dump where waste is collected from the nearby CHP-5. When burning brown coal, ash and slag are formed, which need to be stored somewhere, so the Siberian Generating Company (SGC) dug an extensive reservoir-sump for its needs.
Oxides of various metals are dissolved in the ash dump water, as well as a large amount of calcium salts. It is they, and also a solid depth, in some places exceeding 2 meters, that give the reservoir such an unusual color for a Siberian reservoir.
Unfortunately, bathing in a technical reservoir is impossible — the water filling its bowl is saturated with alkali and kills all living things. Even the trees whose roots are washed by the water of the ash dump have dried up and are now standing as decorations for a fantastic film about a post-apocalyptic world.
But for photo shoots, there is everything you need, starting from a sandy beach and ending with a small, but perfectly afloat raft. "Novosibirsk Maldives" like a magnet attracts Novosibirsk bloggers, who are already tired of the administration of the CHP. Local residents claim that recently the company's security began to "chase" those taking pictures, and the road to the reservoir was blocked.
As expected, the increased interest in this ecological disaster zone caused a lot of rumors to appear on the network. Someone has seen blue gulls here, and someone even claims that the ash dump is radioactive. But representatives of the Siberian Generating Company disappoint romantics and horror lovers by publishing refutations of this type:
Despite this, there are always those who sign photos from the technical reservoir of CHP-5 as "Poisoned Maldives" and "Deadly Lake".
Novosibirsk turquoise lagoon with salts and oxides is not suitable for swimming, but it does not pose a mortal danger. What can not be said about these no less picturesque killer reservoirs located in different parts of the planet.
