Photographer shows how his hometown in Transylvania is dying

In our time of comprehensive urbanization and eternal pursuit of happiness (although happiness is often understood as a higher standard of living), many people leave their native places for large cities where the infrastructure is better developed. And small towns, thus, become like God-forsaken ghost towns that would fit perfectly into some cheap Hollywood thriller with a chilling plot about a zombie apocalypse.

"I have been living in Bucharest for the last three years, but I was born and raised in the small Transylvanian town of Orești. I visit it several times a year, and every time I return to Bucharest, I have the feeling that my native Oreshtia is turning into a ghost town. Most of the streets are empty: sometimes I see lonely silhouettes crossing the road somewhere in the distance, and nothing else," says Romanian photographer Dragos Hanc.

Dragos calls Oreshtia a paradise of accidents, "even though nothing new seems to be happening there."
