One day in the life of strippers and strippers in Miami

Jill Friedman is an accomplished artist and photographer. Her career began fifty years ago, and it was then that she made a name for herself in street photography in New York, which brought her awards. By chance, she began photographing in the 1960s, shooting her first two films with a camera borrowed from a friend, and since then has been creating iconic works.

Many connoisseurs of photography know Friedman from the wonderful black-and-white photographs of police officers, firefighters and New York in the 1970s, but Vice magazine editor Elizabeth Renstrom was very surprised to receive an email from her with the subject "Miami Strippers, 2002". After talking with Jill, Elizabeth realized that the photographer brings a spark of adventure to each of his projects.

Here's what Jill Friedman writes about this series: "Nothing helps to express love like a cute gift, but although candy and flowers are good, nothing makes Cupid—struck tremble like a wonderful pair of new panties. The kind they put on to take off. If love is changeable and ephemeral, it is better to support the dream and wear as much satin and lace as possible to cover the naked truth as decently as possible."

"In search of the most obscene and inherent romance, I found out what strippers and strippers don't wear. After all, who is the best at undressing, if not strippers? But no, it turned out that the striptease was no longer the same, no teasing under the shell or veil. They come out already stripped of illusions, leaving nothing to the imagination. Where is the magic? Now strippers and strippers look like everyone else who walks around in their underwear, except that their heels have become higher and their bodies are more pumped up. And they get paid to train,"—Jill Friedman, December 2002, Miami Beach, Florida.

Jill Friedman told Vice in a short interview about how this photo project was created.

Vice: You are an active and successful street photographer. How do you manage to take pictures without obsession? Jill Friedman: Sometimes I'm invisible, sometimes I'm not. I don't wonder how magic works.

— In previous conversations, you mentioned that most of your work has not been published, which is surprising. I see how now artists need immediate recognition or immediate publication of their works, but you shoot because you want to. Have you always been like this? — Yes, it's a need, like a spider that needs to spin a web. I'm happy when I take pictures, it's great to disappear into the street.
