Air travel has experienced its golden age. Once upon a time, planes had much more space, a stylish interior, and a brighter design. In the 1970s, Europeans could enjoy flying in an elite club environment aboard a Boeing 747.

This model began to be developed in the 1960s, when the airline Pan Am ordered a plane from Boeing for 400 seats. The head of the airline planned to make the plane double-decker, but the design team of Boeing doubted that this is a good idea.

The designers were in favor of a wide fuselage, which at that time was more justified from an engineering and economic point of view, as well as from the point of view of safety. Boeing built a prototype aircraft cabin, which was then used in the real aircraft of the airlines Pan Am, TWA, American, United, National, Continental, Iberia, JAL and SAS.
