Jeans with wide legs: a strange fashion trend from the 90s, which is coming back again
Jeans with wide legs, colloquially called pipes – are a trend that was popular from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s. But we all remember that fashion is cyclical and in 2021 they are back in fashion.
In the 1980s, baggy jeans became popular in the West, they were worn by rappers as clothes that were as comfortable as possible for breakdancing. In the 1990s, these jeans became even baggier and skaters, hardcore punks, ravers and rappers began to wear them to distinguish themselves from metalheads who preferred skinny jeans. In the early 1990s, tube jeans were mostly an underground trend, but gained wide popularity in the mid-1990s.
