By Pictolic https://mail.pictolic.com/article/japanese-creates-amazing-gifs-from-classic-engravings.htmlThe Japanese artist gives a zest to old ukiyo-e prints — he turns traditional Japanese illustrations from old books into modern GIFs and memes. This craftsman is known online under the nickname Segawa thirty-seven.
A series of animated GIFs created by him sometimes complements compositions with trains, alien saucers and laser beams, or slow-moving kites and a light breeze.
In the XVII—XIX centuries, ukiyo-e engravings were very popular in Japan. This style was born on the wave of urbanization, which led to the emergence of a class of merchants and small artisans who began to write stories and novels and decorate them with drawings.
These images, currently known to the whole world, display static scenes, but a Japanese artist working under the name Segawa thirty-seven decided to revive the engravings.
For his work, the Japanese uses Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, with which he changes static images, adding modern (and sometimes futuristic) objects like flying saucers to them.
