House Mila

Categories: Design and Architecture

House Mila, known locally as "La Pedrera", is a real masterpiece of modern architecture, although it is not actually the case. This unusual corrugated stone building with wrought-iron balconies was built over a century ago, between 1906 and 1912. It was designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí. Gaudi was ahead of his time, he created this house without load-bearing walls, but instead used steel, arches and columns of various shapes. In architectural terms, this house is now considered innovative, but at that time it was the subject of ridicule and even disgust. Even the local government was against some aspects of the project, and the owners of the house were fined more than once for violating building regulations. Today the building houses an exhibition center. In 1984, Mila House was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
