Frank and daring Spain in the illustrations of the 1900s
On a sultry summer day, Maite Zubiarre, a professor of Spanish at the University of California, Los Angeles, went into an antique shop in Madrid. Among the numerous globes, maps and furniture, Maite came across a very curious vintage album. In it, the professor saw a whole collection of erotic images from the 1900s, which proved that Spain of that period was touched by the nascent sexual revolution of the early twentieth century, all evidence of which, as it turned out, was destroyed during the Franco regime.
These images and photographs show us a frank and audacious Spain, which, before falling under the dictatorial regime of Franco, suffocating in every sense, like the whole world, enjoyed the eternal desires of human libido.
