European ruins through the eyes of a Polish teacher

But time passed, and for one reason or another they fell into disrepair, were abandoned and now they are only a reminder of the glorious old days. Polish history teacher Pati Makowska embarked on an extraordinary journey through abandoned European ruins to create this stunning photo gallery of past glory and beautiful decay.

4. Pati is from Warsaw. She first became interested in photographing picturesque ruins 12 years ago when she decided to shoot what was left of a medieval castle in the Polish town of Muszyn. (Pati Makowski / Caters News)
