Elephant Foot Glacier
Categories: Nature
By Pictolic https://mail.pictolic.com/article/elephant-foot-glacier.htmlThe Elephant's Foot Glacier is located in northeast Greenland and looks like dough poured into a frying pan. Multi-ton ice broke through the mountain and spilled into the sea in an almost symmetrical shape. Such glaciers are called "foot glaciers" or "foothill glaciers," and Elephant's Foot is a perfect example of such formation.
Its shape is so expressive that it stands out clearly from the surrounding landscape and is clearly visible from above.

Glaciers are one of the most extraordinary natural phenomena. These rivers of frozen snow, formed over the centuries, are in constant motion - as if flowing down. The movement is imperceptible, but arrive at this place in a few decades and the difference in landscapes will be obvious.
Elephant's Foot is located on the Crown Prince Christian Peninsula and is not connected to the main Greenland ice sheet. These individual glaciers make up only 5-7 percent of Greenland's total ice sheet, but they account for 20 percent of the island's contribution to sea level rise.
