The initiative has benefited both animals and prisoners. Now the Pendledon Correctional Institution of Indiana has become the kindest men's prison. Harsh convicts nurse cats, dress them up in funny hats, feed and treat them.

Every pet owner knows that taking care of a pet and the time spent with it can reduce stress levels, relieve depression, cheer up and give a positive mood to thoughts.
In 2015, in Indiana, the Animal Welfare League launched a wonderful program at Pendleton Prison called FORWARD. On the one hand, the government had criminals convicted of assault and robbery. On the other — the shelter cats, who were previously mistreated.
The cats were scared and responded to everything with aggression. No one wanted to take them home, and they were doomed to a lonely life in cages, and, in the end, according to the rules, they had to be put down.
According to the program, prisoners were allowed to take stray cats, keep them and take care of them in their own cell. This helps to improve the mood of prisoners, make them kinder, teach them care and love.
According to the guards, this disciplines the prisoners and makes their stay behind bars less gloomy.
After such care, the fuzzies quickly recovered and good families were found for them, and the prisoners learned to approach the task responsibly, to love someone and take care of them.

While the cats are taken care of by prisoners who feed them, clean up after them and play, the animals become more social and trusting people.

Meanwhile, an elderly resident of the Land of the Rising Sun takes great care of homeless cats and has also posted 20 thousand videos about his wards on the network. Almost no one watched them until Reddit users paid attention to his channel. When the Japanese was asked why he was doing this, he replied that "taking care of cats is the way to your own happiness."
