Color photographs of Japan in the beginning of 1950
After the surrender of Japan in 1945, allied forces led by the US invaded the country. The Empire disintegrated, its form of government was replaced by a democracy, and the economy and the education system has undergone a reorganization. It took years to recover from the horrors of war, including the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By 1950 the former enemy became an ally of the West. Japan has found its niche — engaged in the production of electronics.
