Belgian photographer Lara Gasparatto: getting to the bottom of things and events

I want to capture everything around me: as if a statement of what was around us then, evidence of the atmosphere of our youth, the beauty of our closeness. I like the idea that one day my photo book can be found in an old library. Someone will take it off the shelf, blow on the cover to shake off the dust, open it up and be able to feel what it's like to be young and alive in my time.

3. Belgian photographer Lara Gasparatto, her work is often called a "personal photo diary", but the author herself emphasizes that this is not so. Photography has one essential difference: it cannot do without reality, even if it is an explicit reality interpreted by the photographer and therefore subjective.

6. Lara started taking photographs at the age of fourteen, when her father's friend, photographer Thomas Chable, presented an analog camera. In the beginning, she just took pictures of everything around her, trying to document her childhood, to capture every moment.

9. She graduated from the Saint-Luc High School of Art with a degree in photography. It was an extensive course in the history and aesthetics of images. Lara also mastered the academic style of painting but did not become an artist.

12. Later, her work began to acquire meaningfulness and depth. Getting acquainted with the works of the photographer, it is impossible not to be drawn into a whirlpool of emotional states, to fence off from admiring the world, to which the girl sincerely invites. It is never limited to simple documentation.

14. The main goal of Lara is to penetrate into the essence of things and events. Her photos evoke a feeling of nostalgia, a feeling that what is happening in the photo was with you, in your life.

16. The author travels a lot and has already created a considerable collection of works, some of which are exhibited by the Stieglitz19 Gallery in Antwerp. She has five published photo books.
