After 17 years, the hotel forgave the guest in whose room the voracious seagulls staged a pogrom

The Fairmont Empress Hotel in the Canadian city of Victoria forgave a guest 17 years after he inadvertently almost wiped one of the rooms off the face of the earth. And pepperoni and voracious seagulls are to blame for everything.

Nick Burchill from Dartmouth told about what happened almost 20 years ago in a letter that he sent to the hotel, and posted a copy on Facebook. Nick's story began with good intentions. In 2001, he went on a business trip to Victoria. Colleagues asked me to bring him pepperoni. Nick took the request literally and stuffed a whole suitcase with sausages. During the long flight, the luggage was lost, so the suitcase arrived at the hotel only the next day. Burchill was worried that the pepperoni would spoil in the heat and, since there was no refrigerator in the room, he laid out the sausages on the table, opened the window and went for a walk for a few hours.

When Nick returned to the room, the seagulls were already waiting for him there.

The seagulls were somewhat surprised when they saw Burchill, tried to leave the room at the same time through a small gap and beat at the closed windows.

Nick made his way to the window and opened it to expel the uninvited guests. But one of the birds decided to return to the room to grab another piece of sausage. Then Nick threw a shoe at her. The seagull flew out into the street with the shoe. The last guest remained, who was not going to leave, but ran around the room with pepperoni in her beak. Nick threw a towel over the bird, wrapped it up and threw it out the window.

The situation was complicated by the fact that in a few minutes Nick had to go to a meeting, for which he flew. Burchill ran outside, grabbed a shoe and a towel, and returned to the room. The shoe was dirty, so I had to wash it. Now Nick had one dry and clean shoe and one dark and wet one – he had to dry it with a hairdryer. And then the phone rang. Nick got distracted, went into the room, and at that time the hair dryer fell into the sink, and the electricity went out in the whole room. At that moment, Nick realized the full scale of what was happening. He called the front desk to ask someone to clean the room.

When Nick returned, his things had already been moved to another room. In addition, the hotel staff informed Burchill's employer that he was now permanently banned from staying at the Fairmont Empress.

Nick had been following the ban for 17 years until he decided to officially apologize and ask for the punishment to be canceled. Fairmont Empress employees reported that Nick is now a welcome guest at the hotel, and the man presented half a kilo of pepperoni as a gift.
