A girl with severe facial burns demonstrates the power of makeup

20-year-old makeup artist Shalom Nkom was born in Nigeria but now lives in Maryland, USA. When the girl was nine years old, she had an accident in a family store - boiling oil poured on a child. The girl received severe burns to her face, arms, chest and back. Shalom recalls that life after the accident was not at all what she expected. Wherever she appeared, children and adults stared at her, she felt as if people specially came to see her, as if in a circus. This made Shalom very angry, she pushed away people close to her and cried for any reason.

Soon the girl learned to paint, and she was no longer teased at school. Shalom excelled in the art of makeup so much that classmates began to ask to work for them as a makeup artist. Now, visual lessons and amazing examples of her skills can be seen on the girl's YouTube blog or on her Instagram page.

Shalom Nkom explains that she is happy, and not at all because foundation and powder can hide her scars, but because she has learned to love herself for who she is.
