In July 2015, just a few days after the death of Norma's husband from cancer, she was diagnosed with the last stage of cancer. Doctors offered chemotherapy, surgery and hospice.
However, the brave woman chose a different path — to travel by car around the country with her son and his wife. And it became a road adventure and the great journey of her life. Unfortunately, the last journey of the brave and cheerful Norma Bauerschmidt — she died on September 30.

In August 2015, the trio went on a trip to the east of the country, leaving their home, where Norma lived with her husband for a happy 67 years.

The 91-year-old traveler's son Tim and his wife Rami carefully documented every moment of joy, interest and smile of their mother and posted it on Facebook, where more than 400 thousand subscribers soon began to follow their movements.

And the family realized that what was conceived as a trip around the country turned into a great adventure for them with meaning and purpose.

After a year, Tim and Rami said that they had traveled almost 21 thousand kilometers together, slept in 75 different places in 32 states. They visited more than 20 national parks, monuments and recreation areas.

And every time something happened to Norma for the first time, whether it was a ride on a horse or a balloon flight, the first pedicure, the first plate with oysters, lime pie or fried green tomatoes, it invariably caused a sincere smile from the 91-year-old woman.

Norma Jean Bauerschmidt died on September 30 in her bed in the mobile home where she and her family had been traveling for the last year.

According to the will, her body will be cremated and buried next to her husband. But her courage and love of adventure will always live thanks to the kind memories and photos that remained after her.
