9 stars openly talk about filming in the image of Juliet for the Pirelli 2020 calendar

The Pirelli 2020 calendar was presented in Verona, Italy. The place of the presentation was not appointed by chance: the main character of the new calendar was the most famous woman in world literature — Shakespeare's Juliet.

The 47th issue was called "In Search of Juliet". Its author — a modern Italian photographer Paolo Roversi — chose nine famous women from the world of art and cinema and invited them to present their vision of the character of the main heroine of the tragedy. American actresses Kristen Stewart, India Moore and Yara Shahidi, British actresses Emma Watson, Claire Foy and Mia Goth, singer from China's Chris Lee, Spanish singer Rosalia and French-Italian artist Stella Roversi.

The filming of the Pirelli 2020 calendar took place in Paris and Verona in May 2019. The whole process took about a week. See the pages of the new issue of the most exciting calendar of all time.

For actress and feminist Emma Watson, participating in the filming was a real revelation about first love.

According to the idea of the photographer, the heroines are shown in the calendar in two images. At first, each of them appeared in front of the camera immediately upon arrival on the set — without a costume and makeup. Then the Roversi team transformed them into the characters of the tragedy "Romeo and Juliet".

Before shooting, each heroine shared with the photographer her idea of what Shakespeare's Juliet really was. According to Roversi, bringing women to a frank conversation, he was looking for a pure, innocent soul that would be combined with beauty, strength, tenderness and courage.

The role of Juliet was probably easier for Stewart than for other heroines, because she had already experienced a love that was not destined to happen in the vampire saga.

Actress and model Mia Goth can be called the most sensual Juliet. Playing the role of Joe in the film "Nymphomaniac" directed by Lars von Trier, she portrayed all the erotic mania of the main character.

Roversi also chose the English actress Claire Foy as one of his heroines. For the winner of the Emmy and Golden Globe World Awards, the role of the famous woman was not new: in 2016, the actress appeared in the image of Queen Elizabeth II in the series "The Crown".

Chinese pop singer Yuchin Li, known under the pseudonym Chris Lee, is considered one of the brightest representatives of pop music in her country. She became the only girl of oriental appearance who starred in The Cal 2020, having won the title of the most unique Juliet.

The albums released by the singer have repeatedly won the title of the best-selling in China, and the Royal Institute of International Relations recognizes her as one of the most influential personalities in China.

The 132 pages of the new The Cal contain excerpts from Shakespeare's work and 58 color and black-and-white photographs of women and urban landscapes of Verona.
