On May 11, 1927, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded in California. The Academy was conceived as an organization of volunteer professionals dedicated to the promotion of cinema. However, above all, the Academy is known throughout the world thanks to its annual award "Oscar" - the most prestigious film award.
