The Nature Conservancy charity has announced the winners of its annual nature photography competition. This year, the judges had to choose the best pictures from 57,489 works that were sent from 135 countries.

Commenting on the results, one of the judges of the contest, Bill Marr, said: "The quality of the photos this year is amazing. It was very difficult to choose a winner. We have wonderful pictures from all over the world, from the beautiful landscapes of the West to squirrels in the backyard in Austria. Photography is a common language for everyone."

We present to you the most impressive works of the finalists of the competition.
